Jonathan Byrd INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jonathan Byrd, a longtime Indianapolis 500 car owner, died Thursday. He was 57. Paul Kelly, a spokesman for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, said Byrd died in Greenwood. Byrd had been disabled by a stroke since 2004. In the Today in History feature for Aug. 12, The Associated Press misstated the date that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the Indianapolis 500, first opened in 1909. According to Speedway spokesman Paul Kelly, the first motorized races — using motorcycles — were held on opening day, Aug. 14.
